I Do Crew

These two met LARPing – that’s Live Action Role Play for those of us, not in the know!

As the story goes, Nicola was trying to set up a LARPing group in Sydney and was contacted by this fellow Iain on Facebook. His profile picture was him dressed up as an Orc! How could Nicola resist! She picked him up from a train station for the very first LARPing event and the rest, as they say, is history.

The Details

Ceremony, Post Ceremony & Post Reception: Private Property, Bulahdelah NSW

Reception: Buladelah Bowls Club

What we did: Our role was to help Nicola and Iain and their families let go of all of the planning and just enjoy the day and this means, we do whatever needs to be done, to make that happen. We worked closely with Nicola’s Mum and Step-father who were hosting the wedding on their property. To kick things off, we met with Nicola and her Mum weeks in advance, to go over all of the finer details and offer suggestions about set up, logistics and timings. We also offered unlimited phone and email support in the lead up, to help with all of the final planning questions and confirmations. In the 2 weeks prior we finalised the Runsheet and liaised with Vendors. On the day we were on hand to Coordinate the entire day and other Vendors. We managed the timeline and attended to final setting up and styling details at the Ceremony, Garden Party, Reception and After Party and managed food and beverage service at the Garden Party. At the Reception we kept things moving along by working with the Emcee and the kitchen. Whilst the couple were dancing the night away at their Reception,we dropped back to their home to turn the lights on make the tents cosy for their return and the after party!

Nicola and Iain’s Wedding Day

Nicola and Iain were married at Nicola’s Mother and Step Father’s house in a little rural NSW town called Buladelah. The setting is natually beautiful, with a river running behind the property, but Nicola, Iain and their friends and family all came together to enhance it with their own touches and make it the perfect place to celebrate Nicola and Iain’s Wedding, post Ceremony Garden Party and the After Party (the local Bowls Club was the venue for the Reception). The neighbours even pitched in to manage the bar! We were on hand to help with the finishing touches and manage the flow of the day and honestly it was pure joy. Whilst weddings on private properties come with their own set of challenges, we always find that by the end of them we feel like we have become part of the family – even for a little while. Which of course we love! Now, let’s meet Nicola and Iain.

What makes us tick

We both really enjoy cooking and food, Dungeons and Dragons and each other’s company! Iain is quite an extrovert, whereas I am more of an introvert; so we balance each other out nicely.

What we wore

Nicola: “I went to Brides of Sydney for my dress and Iain wore his MacDougall kilt! The Bridesmaids wore gold and navy and the Groomsmen were all in kilts as well; it was magical! I don’t think anyone was expecting me to wear a big poofy dress! The Bridal Party also looked really formal and sharp. We all looked great!”

Wedding Day Style

Nicola and Iain’s wedding combined all of the things that they most of love, to create a truly personal day that was just so obviously them and that their friends and family loved!

Nicola: “We didn’t really have a theme, except I suppose there were a few dragons around! We had a Scottish ceremony with skilled celebrant Philip Greentree and an amazing Bagpiper Ian Inness, who played the Star Wars theme as I walked down the aisle. It was fantastic!”

Planning Our Wedding

Getting married at home

Nicola: “Planning was greatly aided by my Mum. We were both stressed but organised when we hired Christine and Marcel to come on board. She was very reassuring and we felt like she had years of experience to call on!

Marcel and Christine took over on our Wedding day and ensured everything went smoothly! They were key in helping us – especially my Mum, who planned so much of the wedding – relax and enjoy our day. Thanks to them, we all had a great time.

Advice

Nicole & Iain: “Book the I-do crew! No seriously. Even if you plan everything yourself it is so helpful to have someone there on the day that knows what is going on and who steps up to take the reins. Christine is so good at improvising and making decisions that I was not bothered at all on my wedding day by any of my vendors, and everyone went home happy.
Also, try not to put to much pressure on yourself. If something small goes wrong, try not to sweat it. It is a massive day and you have done so well for organising a great party! Have an amazing time, and congratulations!”
